Apparently this is a common problem with their clam chowder. This is not fake, it really happens because of the titanium dioxide used in their soup.

I recently had a scare and had to spend$ to rule out liver/gallbladder etc issues. I am okay but until this morning did not know that this happens when you eat the soup. I wish Progresso would at least put in a disclaimer about the possibility of white stools after eating it. It would save countless people stress and money.

Sad that they can just ignore this and keep making money off the very people who are suffering. SHAME on you Progresso.

Reason of review: soup causes white stool .

Preferred solution: disclaimer about white stool .

Progresso Pros: I only wrote to make my comment, Used to like them.

Progresso Cons: Artificial color in creamy soups turns stool white.

Because Titanium Dioxide is in the ingredients? Makes sense!

This happened to my toddler years ago. After that experience we never bought Progresso Soup again. WARNING: Titanium dioxide is a mutagen (CAUSES CANCER). Just look at the MSDS sheet for Titanium Dioxide https://***/content/dam/fishersci/en_US/documents/programs/education/regulatory-documents/sds/chemicals/chemicals-t/S25818.pdf .

Around the time this happened to my toddler (20 years ago), there was no information online about it other than the scary stuff. FYI, The primary use of titanium dioxide is for a colorant in paint. In food, they use it to keep other ingredients in the food from changing color on the shelf in order to maintain consistent color (no nutritional value, it's only to make it look "pretty"). It does NOT belong in the body.

Food and drug companies that put it in their products are slowly poisoning you and your kids. It's in a large number of food products including ice cream, Frappuccino drinks, coffee creamers, toothpaste, pharmaceutical pills, it's in LOTS of over-the-counter AND prescription drugs (including Tylenol & ibuprofen), it's in a number of different types of candies (most Easter candies have titanium dioxide laced in them, also candy covered nuts, candy covered sunflower seeds, candy covered chocolates, and beware they hide it under the term FOOD COLORING too), etc. Just look at all the creative ways they have found to slowly poison you and your children with this cancer-causing stuff. READ THE INGREDIENTS.

In it's own way, it can be as bad as asbestos.

Stay away from food companies that intentionally use these toxic ingredients in their products. http://***/health-news/the-cancer-causing-additive-hiding-in-your-toothpaste-and-your-food-titanium-dioxide https://***/fact-sheets/titanium-dioxide-airborne-unbound-particles-respirable-size

It did the same thing to me. Scared me to death. I finally figured out what was wrong after a doctor told me I was fine.

Guest

No more progressive for me

Guest

This is accurate. Sometimes I forget which brand it is as I don't eat much clam chowder but not anymore. Scares the white *** out of you.

Guest

Helpful. I noticed the unusually white appearance of the chowder.

Which made me look online about white stools. Glad I made the connection.

Guest

Ivar's Clam Chowder did it to me.

Iโ€™m here because Ivars did the same to me!! I was like oh no I got liver disease.

Guest

I made a huge pot of soup using Progresso Light Clam Chowder, cream of chicken soup and sweet corn. Yep, white ***

A-Aron, I just experienced this as well. Iโ€™m fairly healthy and had no reason to suspect my liver because of a recent work up.

My solution for this issue tonight will be semi bloody red meat and Cabernet to help make my dookie a little less spooky!

Mine was from a powdered clam chowder mix btw. Hope this helps.

I just read the label, sure enough, Titanium Dioxide was in the ingredients!

Guest

Same situation here that scared me greatly. Won't be eating Progresso clam chowder anymore. Glad I researched this before making a doctor's appointment.

I just checked the ingredients on my can of progressive new England clam chowder and the titanium dioxide is not listed...yet I had the light stool this morning...scared terrible...sure pray it is the soup

I had the same thing happen last night. I also noticed titanium dioxide is not listed in the ingredients.

However, artificial color is listed as an ingredient and I would not be surprised if titanium dioxide is part of that. Now my stool is half white half brown, so I'm pretty confident it was just the soup. If you get fever or chills, see the doc.

Otherwise, you should return to normal within a couple of days. No more Progresso for me!

Seriously thank you. I have been losing my mind all day and was about to go to the ER.

I googled โ€œprogresso ne clam chowder white *** and found a bunch of stuff on it due to the titanium dioxide. Same stuff in sunscreen.

My wife calls the soup sunscreen potato stew now (thereโ€™s hardly any clam in this garbage anyways). Is this a new thing, like has the company recently started putting that chem in the soup?

Thank you for sharing this. I had a can 2 days ago and have been pooping white ever since. I was almost at the point to call my Dr tomorrow before I read this.
